Rebels
gone to the DOGS
Sundays League Decider with Sheffield Hatters was cancelled
due to confusion of the booking of the Rhondda Fach
Sports Centre. Because of Rugby International on the
Saturday the game was changed to Sunday, back in September.
However Early Saturday afternoon it was found that the
Sprts Centre had not changed the date and a DOG show
was booked all day on Sunday. This left the Rebels no
alternatiuve than to postpone the game.
This has been a turbulent time for the Rebels with
Coach Andrea Congreaves and Captiain Sally Kaznica departing
in a cloud of controversy which has left the Rebels
reeling.

Rebels will start 2008 in the unfamiliar surroundings
of the Wales Institute of Sport Cardiff This Saturday
when they will look to build on their unbeaten start to
the season against Team Northumbria.
The game has had to be switched due to the Rebels home
venue unavailable This will be a stern test for the
Rebels who are expecting a strong challenge against
a team who Tipoff is 6:15 in the main hall.
The Rebels will be looking for big performances from
Americans Kirby Copeland and LaNedra Brown who have
made big impacts and both will be crucial as the Rebels
look to challenge for honours this season. Both scored
high twenties in the Rebels last game before Christmas
when they stood firm against a strong challenge from
Manchester Mystics
Next week the Rebels will prepare to take on a double
header weekend against biggest rivals Sheffield Hatters
On Saturday they play away in the League and then on
Sunday the team will square up in the British Cup Final
in Derby as The Rebels look to regain the British crown
which the Hatters snatched off them in dramatic fashion
last year.

General Manager Andrew Tynan is confident the team
can bounce back from their worst ever defeat in their
seven years in European Competition.
"It was a very low point however i think the team
has character and I know the whole team will pull together,
we have not become a bad team overnight!" |
| This has
got to go down as one of the blackest days in The Rebels
history as they were demolished by Challes Les Eaux
who inflicted the Rebels biggest loss in European Competition
for 7 Seasons.
All the hard work and effort over the past seven seasons
playing in European competition was lost in 40 minutes
and it will be a true test of character for the Rebels
to bounce back after this defeat.
The writing was on the wall after only 5 minutes as
the Rebels were mugged out on the perimeter and with
the Referees failing to take any notice the home team
took full advantage and steam rollered their way through
the Rebels.
Kirby Copeland was disqualified from the game early
in the thrid quarther after she retaliated from yet
another "no call" from the referees who seemed
they just wanted to join in the party of the French
side who must of thought this was a different team who
the player just three weeks ago . . .more to follow |

from Spain where Rebels crumble in second half nightmare

It was a game that saw both sides
play appalingly first half and the end result reflects
Hondiribbia Irun raised their game a little in the second
although the Rebels will be ruing one of their worst
shooting performances ever and the simple truth is their
task is already a difficult one, but when you shoot
just a poultry 26% then you dont deserve to get anything
from the game.
And before they face a daunting
trip to Italy next week, The Rebels will have to quickly
regroup as they play Heathrow Acers tonight and a vastly
improved shooting performance is needed . |

return with valuable lead
Coca-Cola Rhondda returned from a gruelling 5,000 km
round trip to the Azores with a valuable 65 - 78 victory.
American Kirby Copeland led all scorers with 22 points
but here were valuable contributions from the rest of
the team. Martina Gandzalova netted 20 points, Andrea
Congreaves drained 4 from 6 from the three point line
to add 12 points and Sally Kaznica chipped in with 11
points. Rebels other American LaNedra Brown pulled down
14 boards and scored seven points and this was even
more pleasing as she was a major doubt at the start
of the week!

points will book the Rebels a place in the group stages
and a challenge totake on top teams from France, Otaly
and Spain.
